The Blogosphere: Suddenly Fall Food

}

This time in the blogosphere, food bloggers are cozying up to some tasty comfort food. This collection of nourishing dishes makes a great “it’s suddenly Fall” menu. If you're stuck for dinner ideas or a good weekend cooking project, read on!

  1. Miss Adventure’s post about Chinese steamed buns has precise, step-by-step directions on how to prepare two different types: a savoury bun with ground pork, Chinese sausage, mushroom and quail eggs, and a sweet version stuffed with coconut jam. Sounds like a worthy weekend cooking project to me.
  2. Winnipeg Eats was inspired to butterfly a chicken after watching an episode of Good Eats with Alton Brown. The blog post includes a link to a YouTube video that explains how to butcher a chicken so that it lays flat, as well as a recipe and photos of the results.
  3. The Seasonal Ontario Food blog featured a recipe for Tomato and Garlic Soup with Vegetables. It calls for 6-8 cloves, and has a rich Mexican flavour. Instructions encourage potential cooks to go for the full amount of garlic, but if you’re planning on getting close with a special someone, you can always cut back.
  4. Meanwhile, in fish country, the Definitely not Martha blog featured a post about (and I quote) “the most amazing freaking salmon you will ever eat”. The healthy indulgence is paired with a Tuscan Bean and Heirloom Tomato Salad and topped with Chimichurri sauce. I’m not much of a fish fan, but DNM’s mouth-watering photos are definitely making me take a second look.
  5. Finally, Kitchen Vixen blogged about her visit to a poutine-focused restaurant in Toronto. The version pictured is “double pork” – that’s pulled pork, double smoked bacon, French fries, cheese curds and gravy. Judging by the rave review, I'd say she had no regrets.
