  • Delicious Miami Empanandas

While in Miami in early October, I dined at some of the city's fanciest restaurants and they were all quite lovely. But I have to say that my most memorable meal was at a little fast-food place a short walk from South Beach (they even deliver directly to your beach towel) called Half Moon empanadas. Not only were the empanadas amazing, but our hostess for lunch, co-owner Pilar Guzman Zavala was so passionate about the Argentinian snacks that she got us excited as well. Watch the super charming Pilar in the video below and learn how empanadas are made. View Larger Map Related: A Mouth-Watering Miami Meal (and Video!) • A Mouth-Watering Miami Meal (and Video!)

Last month I escaped the crisp fall weather and spent a hot weekend in Miami . I was not only lucky enough to spend two nights at the Four Seasons but I was treated to an amazing (and very filling) lunch at Acqua prepared by Canadian Executive Chef, Patrick Boucher . Boucher's first position with the Canadian luxury hotel chain (yep, Four Seasons is Canadian!) was as a cook in Toronto. He's since worked at Four Seasons hotels and resorts in Hawaii, Beverly Hills, Bali and Dubai. And he cooks with an international flair to match, mixing Asian influences with Miami's Latin flavours. Watch the video below as Patrick talks me and my lunch date, the lovely Eviliny Bastos-Klein who handles publicity for the hotel, through the amazing meal he's prepared for us. • Mia at Biscayne, Miami

Mia at Biscayne dining room and service bar; Photo: Mia at Biscayne I recently had the amazing opportunity to visit Miami for the first time and sample some of the city's most interesting restaurants, including Mia at Biscayne . Located in downtown Miami, it's a supper club in the true sense of the phrase. It's glitzy, sophisticated and full of people dressed exactly as you would expect in Miami: bright colours and short hemlines — slick but not unapproachable. And unlike other supper clubs, Mia's food goes way beyond the expected. This isn't just a party venue, it's a culinary experience. The Cuban-Japanese-fusion menu is tapas-style and sharing is encouraged. My boyfriend and I had the luck to have the restaurant's manager choose our meal —the best way to learn what a restaurant has to offer, if you ask me. We started with Croquetas with Serrano ham, Manchego cheese and chives and shrimp and skirt steak Pinchos (basically skewers). That was followed by Hamachi Jalapeno sushi rolls — a brilliant combination of Japanese yellowtail, cilantro, jalapeno, avocado and chili mayo. For a shared main, we consumed the best scallops I've ever had in the Seafood Parrillada: Scallops, shrimp, pieces of salmon, tuna and calamari with avocado and hijiki in a shallot-habenero vinaigrette. And it didn't stop there. For dessert, we sampled a little concoction like nothing else I've ever experienced. Called “Mounds’’ Nitro Truffles, these little coconut and chocolate treats sort of explode or almost evaporate on contact with your tongue, sending the light-as-air flavours throughout your mouth. Needless to say, our dinner was amazing and whether you're a party person or not, Mia at Biscayne is a must-visit destination while in Miami.
