  • Video of the Week: Sushi Master Prepares Live Fugu, the Poisonous Blowfish!

This may be a bit graphic for some, so please use your discretion. I’ve never had Fugu , and in fact, I don’t believe there are any sushi restaurants in Ontario (perhaps in Vancouver?) that serve true Fugu sashimi (some may serve fried Fugu parts, and there’s also a rumoured variety of non-poisonous blowfish that can be found in the US), but that hasn’t stopped my morbid curiosity. The Japanese delicacy that is very much deadly by way of its toxic insides, can only be prepared by an expertly trained master, one very much like the one featured in the video below. The fish is prepared live, so watch for it as it continues to mimic breathing even without its head. The video seems to have been shot in Japan, and our auteurs do a great job of narrating the play-by-play. Would you try it? HAVE you? Wait a minute, is it illegal in Canada??
